Friends of Unity Blog Hop - CASE'd!

Happy Saturday, crafty friends!

Can you even believe it is January already??? A new year full of crafty possibilities!

This month the Friends of Unity are CAS-ing designs and creating cards from that inspiration! Crystal kicked things off for you - if you missed her Blog and want to start over there, you can find it HERE.

What is "CASE" ? - It means C opy A nd S hare E verything!
We get so much inspiration from our friends and fellow cardmakers - and if you're like me, Pinterest is your best friend! I love taking elements from cards I spot and making them my own - so lets get right to it this month!

I happened to choose two cards by a past Unity Design Team member named Heather Hoffman.
Heather designed for Unity for many years - and I admired her clean and simple cards that always had touches of whimsy... from doilies to simple little elements - a "Heather" card is easy to spot. I still get a ton of inspiration from both her past cards and the ones she currently creates (yes - she is STILL out there getting inky!)
Here's the first card of hers that inspired me:

.... and here is my card....

I absolutely adore kraft cards, and the warm rustic look of a stamp with very little coloring.
Heather's card inspired me to capture that simplicity, using one of our Rescue Tales stamps that I had never inked up before (gasp! I know! Terrible!)

Jakob from the Rescue Tales line  is one sweet pup, and he needed very little coloring at all  (if any). I simply used my Copic markers in warm greys here and there, (W6, W4, and W3)  and then added white Prismacolor pencil crayon to highlight. My kraft paper was a bit darker than Heather's card but the panel was cut using the Big Scallops and rectangle nesting dies, and I darkened up around the edges by ink blending with Tim Holtz distress ink in Scorched Timber. I popped it up and layered it with some patterned paper from my stash (SU)
That's it. That's the tutorial. lol

Next up, I chose a card of Heather's with a fun doily element - textbook "Heather" ;)

My card mimics that style completely!

I chose one of our brand new releases this month - Uniquely Unity's  Just Pig-cause. Isn't this adorable?!?
I inked up this little oinker and coloured using a blend of both Copics and some Prima colored pencils. The small splashes are actually two stamps from the Happy Belongs Here set - and they worked perfectly!

I stencilled some cloud background before using a simple stitched circle die to cut out the image. I happen to have ALOT of doily in my stash (lol because apparently I was going to hop on the trend like Heather) but I think this is only about the 4th time I have ever used them - I think I may need to CASE her more often ;)
I dug its my Unity paper stash for this card - Country Lovin' was perfect to pair with this image, don't you think???

I love how both of these cards turned out - I put my own spin on them but I had a ton of help from her beautiful cards.

I can't wait to see what you are inspired to create this month by CAS-ing my cards, or my friends on the Hop. Next up is Toni - you can check out her designs HERE.

Be sure to let me know you stopped by below. Thanks for popping in!

Peace, Love n Ink
