Friends of Unity Blog Hop - April 2025: Use All Scraps
Hey crafty friends! Welcome to this month's Friends of Unity Blog Hop!
We are inspiring you with cards we have created using scraps!
I have to admit, I save scraps - from colored cardstock to bits of patterned paper - I am such a "you-never-know-when-this-might-work-for-a-card" person! Reality is that I do find a use for those pieces of pretty paper - like this month's Blog Hop cue! ;)
Let's get to it!
My first project is a set of cards - in total, I made 6 beautiful cards using just scraps and card bases I had on hand, and one Unity stamp set!
I was SO excited for a BIG BOLD sentiment stamp set and one of the new(ish) releases made my wish come true! The Say It Loud and Clear stamp has everything you need to make easy beautiful cards.
My set of cards used just about every stamp in the set ( I could have kept going, but I actually ran out of scraps of cardstock I wanted to use that coordinated with the Vintage Blooms and Botany paper from Unity - that paper pack is from the Aug 2023 Whit kit.)
I had a ton of paper I had cut for a class that didn't get to happen :( I wondered when I would get my chance to use it and this was the opportunity. Yay!
This particular easy card design is called the Fault Line technique (it really isn't a technique - you just rip the paper!)
Measurements are approximate but I added a 4x4 piece of beautiful pattern paper to a 4x5.25 cardstock layer, and then tore 2 pieces of coordinating cardstock that measured 4x2.75. I left them layered and peeking out a bit, and also wanted to show off that gorgeous floral paper! There is just enough room to stamp those sentiments on the top layer before I added them to my card base.
This was a great way to mass produce a set of quick cards AND use up paper.
Next, a little paper piecing and multi media card for you!
One of the newest lines over at Unity is the incredible In the Light line and the debut stamp is called Love Stays No Matter What. It was a must-have for me and I had luckily saved a piece of watercolor paper that I had been playing with that was a mish-mash of distress inks and smooshing. I vaguely remember saving it in my PhD basket (Projects Half-Done) - I had an idea to smoosh a bit of Versamark through a Tim Holtz brick stencil and then sprinkle Distress Glaze in Scorched Timber - the result was MAGICAL! I then stamped the "hope" definition and the main girl image. I stamped her a 2nd time on Hammermill paper and colored her with Copics - but I wasn't happy with her sweater... so I stamped her yet again on a piece of patterned paper scrap from my scrap bucket (see?! Ya never know when you might need it!) A little paper piecing saved the day.
I fussy cut the image and layered it directly on top of the original stamped image. The sentiment was added after I added a bit more distress ink and some Copic for shading. I love how this card turned out.
I loved being able to use my scrap stash for these designs this month!
My friends have some beautiful projects to check out this month too - be sure to visit all the stops along the way to get inspired! Before you go, though, be sure to leave a hello in the comments so I know you popped by!
